Wood-fired steel pizza oven

An in-house 2022 project: a steel pizza oven designed in CAD and built by hand. Wood-fired, with two granite stones in the chamber, and still working today.

Pizza baking between the flames inside the chamber.IE-023 · FIG.01 · Pizza baking between the flames inside the chamber.

Problem

I wanted to bake proper pizza at home, which needs a hot fire and a stone that stores and gives back heat.

Outcome

The result is a working wood-fired oven that bakes pizza on granite and is still in use today. It shows the full path from a CAD model to a finished, welded metal product.

  1. 01I designed the body and chamber in CAD, choosing steel sheet 3 to 4 mm thick.
  2. 02I cut the steel panels and ground the edges ready for assembly.
  3. 03I welded the panels into a single standing body on legs.
  4. 04I fitted two granite stones into the baking chamber above the firebox.
  5. 05I lit the oven with wood and baked the first pizzas.
