Sun ceiling lamp with 3D-printed flames
9 printed flame petals in 3 filament colours (yellow, orange, red), mounted around a round LED ceiling fixture. The flame gradient comes from the material colour, with no painting. Designed in CAD, printed on our own farm, installed in a child's room.
Problem
The client wanted to turn a plain round LED ceiling fixture in a child's room into a sun-and-flame decorative piece. Off-the-shelf lamps did not match the room concept (forest wallpaper, warm colours). A custom design was needed, one that wraps the existing fixture without blocking the light.
Outcome
A plain ceiling fixture turned into a sun lamp matched to the room's forest theme. 9 flame petals mounted around the fixture, a colour gradient with no paint, light left unobstructed. Installed and working.
- 01CAD design of the flame ring fitted to the existing fixture diameter. Split into 9 separate flame petals to fit the printer build area and simplify assembly.
- 02A three-colour filament strategy (yellow, orange, red) instead of paint, so the flame gradient is permanent and built into the material.
- 03Printing the 9 parts on our own Bambu Lab farm. Preparing the 3mf models and slicing for multi-colour printing.
- 04Mounting the petals around the fixture and installing it on the child's room ceiling. The round LED light stays exposed and fully functional.
