Disposable lens on a mirrorless body
A 3D printed body reuses the lens element salvaged from a single-use Kodak camera and mounts it on modern mirrorless cameras. We sold a few units, and the disposable-camera look on a modern body works.
Problem
The disposable-camera look appeals to photographers, but single-use cameras end after one roll and do not fit modern gear. The optics needed to move onto a body people already use every day.
Outcome
A working lens delivers the disposable-camera look on a modern body and sold in a few units. Test photos by Dominik Czerny show the characteristic soft effect.
- 01We took apart a single-use Kodak camera and removed the lens element.
- 02We designed and 3D printed the body and rings that hold the lens element.
- 03We fitted the mount for Sony, Canon and similar mirrorless cameras.
- 04Photographer Dominik Czerny shot test photos confirming the disposable-camera look.
- 05We released the lens and sold a few units.
